A campaign alongside your retries
Churn Buster triggers retries through Checkout Champ and runs a branded email and SMS sequence alongside them, so customers hear from you across the recovery window.
On Checkout Champ, both step in when a rebill fails, so they're easy to mix up. Churn Buster runs the recovery campaign: retries, email, SMS, and a card update link. FlexFactor gives a failed payment another route on its own merchant account and charges only when it recovers. FlexFactor fits two places: at checkout, and on the final attempt after a Churn Buster campaign.
Recovering subscription revenue since 2013.
| Area | Churn Buster | FlexFactor |
|---|---|---|
| Where it sits | On your subscription rebills | At initial checkout, or on the final attempt after a Churn Buster campaign |
| What it does | Triggers retries through Checkout Champ, plus branded email, SMS, and a card update link | Retries the payment on its own merchant account, for up to 21 days |
| Declines it works | Soft and hard. We set which declines to retry and which to answer with only a card update request | Soft declines by default. Hard declines only if you remap them |
| The next rebill | A card update carries forward, on gateways that accept card updates | The subscription goes back to the gateway that declined |
| Pricing | Flat monthly fee by MRR tier | A share of each payment it recovers |
| Reporting | Recovery Outcomes and Recovery Curve for the failed payments Checkout Champ sends us | Recovered revenue for the payments it handles |
FlexFactor reviews declined payments and retries the ones it judges recoverable on its own merchant account. On approvals it makes, FlexFactor carries the credit and fraud risk. It also handles declines at initial checkout, while a customer is still on the page. Churn Buster works on subscription rebills.

When the card is the problem, recovery depends on the customer. Our messages link them to update their card, so next month's rebill has a working card behind it, on gateways that accept card updates.
Your Recovery Team watches your campaigns, tests length and copy, and tells you what's working, including when FlexFactor should come in. Advising is part of the flat fee.
A payment Churn Buster recovers costs nothing beyond the flat fee and your normal processing fees. A payment FlexFactor recovers costs a share of that payment. If FlexFactor gets a rebill before your Churn Buster campaign has run, its fee can apply to payments a retry or a card update could have recovered.

Churn Buster alone fits when you'd rather not pay a share of recovered revenue. Our flat fee pays for itself at about a 1% improvement in recovery rate.
